Over the last couple of years, the holidays have been tough for me emotionally. The dark days combined with family troubles and mental illness have meant that I no longer love this time of year like I used to. It’s hard to be optimistic around the holidays with years of emotional baggage and obligation. This year has been different but it’s still hard to let go of all those years of hardship.
If you’re also struggling this time of year for whatever reason, know that you’re not alone and I love you. If your family doesn’t accept you for being LGBTQ+, know that I love you so much and your identity is so valid. Know that it’s okay if you want to spend the holidays with your chosen family this year.
Happy holidays everyone and I hope that 2019 brings peace, justice, and equity for us.
